AbstractHyperuricaemia is the underlying cause of a condition commonly known as gout. Patients with hyperuricaemia may be asymptomatic for life or may experience frequent attacks of painful gouty arthritis. Gout is, therefore, a condition with both acute and chronic characteristics.
